Songs are about just being totally honest and putting those words to music.

That's kind of the mission statement for the label: to try to do great music that touches people's hearts.

But that is a valid, continuing service that that music - which is, in some cases, 80 or 90 years old - is rendering. And proving its own timelessness.

Quality is timeless: It will clearly define itself. And so I make reference to and acknowledge things that I feel have been dismissed, trying to restate those musical and cultural elements clearly and vehemently.

The quality of a timeless song is that it's catchy, meaningful and relatable.

These seem to me so ambiguous, so vague, so easily misunderstood in comparison to genuine music, which fills the soul with a thousand things better than words.

I think that what is important is that the music be honest and direct and that it is relevant to today. I think music needs to be of its time and speak to that time.

I think it's important, if you are an artist, to use your music to stand up for what you believe in.

I never presumed that a technique of composition or an idea was so special that just using it would guarantee the quality of the music.

It's a great honor when somebody takes your song and does something different with it. That's what music is all about: to constantly change what somebody else has done.
