When I wrote 'Fight Song,' I was in a particular low point. I needed to remind myself to not give up, that I still believed in myself and that I still had fight left.

My songs are self-explanatory... somebody pointed out to me that... my songs pretty much speak for themselves.

I think I made this decision that I just loved making music, and it didn't matter what level I got to do it on, and 'Fight Song' was this declaration that I'm going to keep going, and I'm going to keep believing in myself, even if it seems like it's impossible.

The way I write my songs is that I have to believe what I'm writing about, and that's why they always end up being so personal - because the kind of artists I like, they convince me, they totally win me over straight away in that thing. Like, 'Oh my God, this song is totally about me.'

And I used to think that proof that I had religion was whether I knew how to sing all of the songs.

Most of my songs aren't about me. They're about stuff I've seen.

So it was just a case of getting a bunch of songs that I had been writing for years but hadn't recorded together, and the result was My Own Best Enemy.

If my life were a song it would be called 'Don't Stop Believing'. Yeah.

All of my songs are autobiographical.

My identity started developing through the songs I was writing.
