Clemens and Maddux have defined our era, I believe. And Randy Johnson is right behind them and still going.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
Clemens, Seaver, Gibson, Maddux - I just don't see myself in that category. I'm flattered that maybe it's debatable at this point.
I believe every era has its significance and the same holds true for players and coaches.
They try to say this era was a tainted era. But so many great players played in the last 15 to 20 years. This is going to be the best era in the history of the game in my opinion.
Yes, I have known Roger Clemens for a long time.
Roger Clemens is one of the most wonderful men I've ever known. I loved him very much... still love him to this day. He treated me like a princess.
During my time, there might have been one pitcher or two that were top pitchers on a team. Teams that won maybe had three, but today they have a lot of depth. They have a lot of long relievers, short relievers, and the strategy is different.
I think the average MLB career now is just a few years. The quote that has always resonated with me is 'We're going to be former players a lot longer than we were current players.'
Today baseball is currently enjoying a run of more than 14 years without interruption, a record that would have been inconceivable in the 1990s.
But I'm still not 100% convinced that Roger Clemens took steroids. I'm not.
It's a very confusing era that we're in.
