Storylines are how characters create the plots involved in their stories.

The fundamental issue is the moral issue.

Contemporary audiences are interested in watching characters navigate ethical challenges and moral dilemmas.

The most important ethical issues and the most difficult ones are the human ones because a reporter has enormous power to hurt people.

Since I'm not a journalist, I talk about issues that encourage an interchange of ideas through conversation while also being entertaining.

One of the biggest issues that we face is that we have people who have their own particular concerns, whether it's on abortion, birth control, divorce and remarriage, civil rights or social justice.

It makes sense that whatever the topic is, it's more compelling if you can provide the audience with a range of perspectives, and you can cross disciplines. And you don't have to control what people take out of it.

Sometimes in television, if there are storylines that are oft-told, people can be hypercritical of them.

Ideally, I'd like every issue to include a diverse group of stories that meet the qualifications sketched above, but covering a wide range of specific matter and flavour.

There are so many issues, so many opportunities to bring people together who have different perspectives, to develop action plans, and to have a significant impact on those issues.
