I was a young girl the first time I learned about the concept of paying it forward.

I've had a hip replacement, I've beaten cancer, I had my hand operation, and I stopped drinking. Something inside of me just went, 'I'm done.'

I come from a simple background, so I couldn't call my father and say, 'Come pay my bills,' so I had to get out there and work.

I remember having a conversation with my sister, saying, 'What if I don't make it? What if I'm still waiting tables when I'm 35?' I was just at the end of my rope. But I've been at the end of that rope several times.

They say that I'm stubborn, and my wife says that, too, but it's paid off so far.

You get to a point in your life where you go, 'I don't remember what I did.'

I go to work, and think 'wow, they pay me for this', and I go home.

I reached a point towards the end on the old heart where I had trouble getting out of a chair. All I wanted to do was get out of bed in the morning and walk to my office and sit back down in the chair. Now I throw 50 pound bags of horse feed in the back of my pickup truck and I don't even think about it. I'm back doing those things.
