Music - that's been my education. There's not a day that goes by that I take it for granted.

Music - which I could never listen to while writing before I had children - became essential to my process.

Way back in the day, when I first started and had delusions of adequacy as a cartoonist, I would listen to music. When I switched to a career as a writer, I would try to listen to music, but if the songs had lyrics they would get in the way of the words I was trying to write. So I switched to listening to purely instrumental pieces.

Music is life itself. What would this world be without good music? No matter what kind it is.

To me, there's two kinds of music these days. There's ephemeral music, and there's music that has lasting power and depth.

For me, music has been, in a sense, my religion, and it is what brings me closest to God or truth or whatever you want to call it.
