That was my introduction to electoral politics, which was exciting and fun and thrilling and very theatrical.

I loved politics and, I confess, I enjoyed politicians immensely.

My parents elected me president of the family when I was 4. We actually had an election every year, and I always won. I'm an only child, and I could count on my mother's vote.

I really enjoyed my time in state government. I thought we made a difference. I liked being a part of that effort. I had a different experience in Washington.
