I'm not really that keen on mainstream; I'm not interested in doing the normal films. I do tend to go for the quirky, different scripts.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
If the movies that I'm going to make anyway go mainstream, that would be the coolest thing ever. But I have set up a plan that I've been working on for a long time.
It just seems like that because I do a lot of independent films that don't get to the mainstream.
Any film I do needs to excite me at a script level.
The things I want to make into a film, they're personal, esoteric things, and I don't expect anyone else to like them as much as I do. I generally like my films more than anybody else will.
I like films that are well-written and concise and with not a lot of room for improvisation.
I have always thought if you are going to make a film, it's much better to have an original script that will play to film's strengths.
There are no great scripts - just great films.
I find the most interesting and most daring scripts tend to be for independent films.
I'd love to do a sci-fi movie, a western, or an espionage thriller. But I'm not going to limit myself. If a good script comes along, I'm not going to discount it because it doesn't fit into one of these genres.
I do want to be in mainstream movies that are going to be seen. I suppose it satisfies the showbiz side of me.
