We will not be intimidated or pushed off the world stage by people who do not like what we stand for, and that is, freedom, democracy and the fight against disease, poverty and terrorism.
Of course, violence will not end with our combat mission. Extremists will continue to set off bombs, attack Iraqi civilians and try to spark sectarian strife. But ultimately, these terrorists will fail to achieve their goals.
The closer Iraq approaches freedom and democracy, the more impediments and barriers the terrorists will erect.
In any insurgency there will be people who are irreconcilable and who pose a clear and present threat to the U.S. and our allies.
Our country has been overtaken by murderous thugs... gangsters who lust after fortunes and power.
If we are going to conduct a population-centric strategy in Afghanistan, and we are perceived as backing thugs, then we are just undermining ourselves.
We don't kill Iraqis - our hands do not kill Iraqis. But we target only the occupier with all the means of resistance.
The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment.
Hussein has a strategy. I'm sure he'll implement that strategy, and it would be to our detriment. We're embarking on an exercise about which we know nothing.
