I've always loved Japanese legend, anime and manga.

Anime has been good to me. I made and continue to make very little money at it, but the undying, feverish loyalty of the fans of the genre has been such a life-changing influence for me that I wanted to do everything I possibly could to help give something back to them.

I love the work of Hayao Miyazaki. 'My Neighbor Totoro' and 'Castle in the Sky' are two of the great films that he's made that I just love.

I've always wanted to be a manga-ka, so I'm doing what I love.

I'm just very obsessed with Japanese stuff in general.

So many of us, we love these things that come from Japan. We play the video games every day, we read the manga, people watch the cartoons, they absolutely love it.

To me, the thing about anime is that it's so adult-oriented. I remember going to Suncoast growing up, and you see 'Akira' there with the little 'Not for Kids' sticker on it. That always made an impact on me.

Perhaps the writer I've read the most of is Haruki Murakami, the Japanese writer, but I wouldn't necessarily say he's a favourite. I read him because I find his work so intriguing, but I don't necessarily feel I would follow this writer to the ends of the earth.
