I write a lot about myself.

Why my interest in writers? Well, I'm one, and many of my friends are writers. I know what it's like to write. I'm interested in the creative process. I'm fascinated by the disparity between who we are on the outside, and what we have bubbling away inside us.

I am, as are most writers, just hugely obsessive, and so are many of my closest friends, who tend to be writers or scientists. It's a trait of human nature that I'm particularly in touch with. So I tend to project it onto my characters.

I enjoy being influenced by other writers.

The thing I am attracted to is just good writing and stories that are based somewhat in reality.

A lot of the stories I've read about myself, I don't even recognize who they're writing about.

If I think about the writers I love or might be influenced by, I can't write at all, so I pretend there aren't any.

I'm personally attracted to great writing - that's what turns me on the most.

I'm a writer; it's not just what I do, but who I am.

I was always attracted and repelled by the idea of being a writer.
