It is because nations tend towards stupidity and baseness that mankind moves so slowly; it is because individuals have a capacity for better things that it moves at all.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
The strides of humanity are slow, they can only be counted in centuries.
For people who are at the bottom economically, the world is becoming a harder and harder place. And yet the incentives to become rich are so great because enormous amounts of wealth are being accumulated. And so those two things, that carrot and stick, are beating people along this trajectory of trying desperately to move up in the world.
The nation is trying to catch up with a rapidly changing world.
But just as haste and restlessness are typical of our present-day life, so change also takes place more rapidly than before. This applies to change in the relationships between nations as it does to change within an individual nation.
If we look to the history of other nations, ancient or modern, we find no example of a growth so rapid, so gigantic, of a people so prosperous and happy.
But each country has to advance and move at its own speed.
The world is in motion, as it seems.
It's the need for change that drives us to join forces with our brothers and sisters all around the world - but change is slow.
That's why, to experience that, you know for a fact that a human being is capable of so much more, because to go to that place and to step outside yourself and observe yourself do these things, while the rest of the world is moving in slow motion, is really incredible.
The world moves fast, but change isn't always a good thing when you got it right the first time around.
