All of my characters are a little bit based on people I know in real life. You know when you do that you have to change the character a little bit in case your friend or your relative reads the book, because you don't want them to know you wrote about them... They might get mad.

Writers sometimes write things for me and I like to see what they write because I want to see what their take on my delivery is or what they think that I can do with something. So I kind of leave that to them.

So much has been written about me, and people don't know what's right and what's wrong. I'd rather let them stay confused.

The things I write are for those who are willing to accept a new relationship between the reader and the author.

Exposing characters and their shortcomings gives me great comfort. It's always great to write about someone more mixed up than yourself.

It seems natural to me that as a writer, you should have some kind of, you know, there should be some kind of projection that you actually have influenced people who are closest to you.

I think it's important to change and not be associated with your character too much.

I'm blessed in my good friends, and some of them happen to be writers, though that's almost never what our friendships are about. And every writer I've ever read, living or dead, has in one way or another helped and inspired. I have a feeling it's important not to mix the two up.

I discovered that writing was very nice indeed when I was very young, and I never changed. I don't think my style has changed very much at all - though I hope what I say is a bit more interesting. It's about getting to know a character and loving them, I think.

If they want to write about me in a good way, they should write how I do things that are useful.
