When I was a kid, Eisenhower had been President forever, and all of a sudden, everything in the world was all about Jack Kennedy. I was 12, interested in politics; my father was from Massachusetts, had an accent like Kennedy.

Ike's problem was that he was a musician that always wanted to be a star; and was a star, locally, but never internationally... so he then changed the name to Ike and changed my name to Tina because if I ran away, Tina was his name. It was patented as you call it.

I had the fixation that comes with being a Kennedy to be a great man on the big stage.

The Russians feared Ike. They didn't fear me.

Before the Kennedys were elected, there had been older Presidents. Then here was this devastatingly attractive young couple with two beautiful children. They were so intelligent, graceful, gracious and funny. They enjoyed life so much. That's what caught America's eye.

As much as I liked and admired the various members of the Kennedy family, my first loyalty was to Jackie.

Jack Kennedy was one year older than I was, and we attended the same neighborhood school.

Kennedy was a man who liked writers and even I got invited to the White House.
