Producing came about because I never wanted to be in one of those books, Where Are They Now?

I have to go make books. Sorry about that.
The books are all very, very different so the publishers really had to be different too.
So, while I gave up the notions of publishing at that time, I never stopped editing and refining that book. A few years later, in 1987, I thought I had it ready to go out again.
It was kind of like songwriter's boot camp. You had to produce. You had to produce fast. You had to learn.
If you're trying to be a successful writer, and you go into a second-hand bookshop, it's the graveyard of people whose books haven't been wanted.
I love all of my books. They were labors of love; I was striving to create something well done, and I do feel I succeeded.
I didn't ever plan to be a producer, and I didn't really know what I was getting myself into.
There isn't an aspect of book creation I don't enjoy, and there has always been a book in my life to dream about or work on.
For 'Chapters', I decided to let go of my insecurities, found myself some talented R&B producers, and worked with them.
Books come from within.
