I know we will look back on this and think how odd it was we were championing the rights of lone mothers to bring up their children on benefit.

Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. I think people have had the understanding for many years that whatever happens with the separation of parents, that the kids automatically go to the mother. The fathers don't know their rights.
It is time for us to focus on the issues that bring us together as a nation. Supporting parents' capacity to raise their children with the love and resources they need is simply the right thing to do.
You know, I don't think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn't wish for that, but it happened.
