But, when I had this feeling and started painting sacred art, as I had this feeling to do, then it come to me: my problem is I'll get a lot of criticism and another problem is my work's not good enough to sell.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
Most people respond to my paintings quite generously, but there have been cases where I think people - a few critics in particular - were actually moved by the work but were disturbed by the feelings it evoked, so they attacked it. Some people find the realm of my work quite uncomfortable.
I don't buy art just to make artists happy any more than I want to make them sad if I sell their work.
Making art, good art, is always a struggle. It can make you happy when you pull it off. There's no better feeling. It's beauteous. But it's always about hard work and inspiration and sweat and good ideas.
Treat a work of art like a prince. Let it speak to you first.
I don't know very many people in the art world, only socialise with the few I like, and have little time to gnaw my nails with anxiety about any criticism I hear about.
I unfortunately do suffer for my art.
You really need faith in yourself to make art and to stand up for what you believe in.
A work of art is one through which the consciousness of the artist is able to give its emotions to anyone who is prepared to receive them. There is no such thing as bad art.
The more you think, the more you ruin things. Art has to come viscerally; otherwise, forget it.
I don't think there is too much art involved in what I do.
