My story of success and failure is not just about music and being famous. It's about living and loving and trying to find purpose in this crazy world.

A lot of people have told me along the way that my style and the music I do... is unmarketable. But the only reason I'm successful is because I have stayed true to myself.

When I got into the music industry, I wasn't focused on being the most famous artist or even getting a major record deal. It was just to make music on my own terms or create my own image, do my own hair, do my own makeup.

I lost myself in the bubble of music - driving myself to be a success.

I get to define for myself what being a success is.

I think I've had the longest career of strength, focus, and still being able to sell records. I think I'm that guy. I'm still blessed with the opportunity to make music and pass out a message like, 'Life is good,' to the world.

I think success right now is not about how famous you are or how much you're getting paid, but it's more about if you're steadily working and you're happy with what you're doing.

That's a beautiful thing. The more successful you are, the more people are going to come and be a part of music.

You have reached the pinnacle of success as soon as you become uninterested in money, compliments, or publicity.

For me, it's never been about being famous. I just want to be a successful singer. I wanna work hard... If I'm in the papers, grace, but I want to be there for the right reasons - for my music.
