China and the U.S. need each other very badly. Yes, we should argue about some things, but it's not an 'us versus them,' it's an 'us and them' type scenario.

Like other countries in the world, China must uphold its own sovereignty, territorial integrity and development interests. At the same time, we are willing to properly handle differences and disagreements in state-to-state relations.

The U.S.-China relationship, of course, has elements of both cooperation and competition.

Because of the economic crisis, China and the United States are bound together. This is a totally new phenomenon, and nobody will fight for ideology anymore. It's all about business.

It's proper and appropriate to remind the Chinese about what they get out of solid relations with the United States.

So China will be having to make some choices as to whose side it wants to be on. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a major improvement in our relationship with them, if they choose correctly.

We are not facing China alone; we are facing China together with a lot of other people in the region.

I'm concerned with China growing at double or triple the rate of the West, that there will be tensions. One needs to do something to start addressing misunderstandings and frustration.

I think that there is a concern, a question mark, by people all around the world and governments all around the world, as to what China's intentions are.

The United States is afraid of China; it is not a military threat to anyone and is the least aggressive of all the major military powers.
