I'm not afraid of heights. I rock climb. I can repel off the side of a building.

A builder is like a little god - somebody who does things, doesn't just draw things.

Speaking as a builder, if you start something, you must have a vision of the thing which arises from your instinct about preserving and enhancing what is there... If you're working correctly, the feeling doesn't wander about.

Building is just skilled labor, I suppose. It's a lot of work. I don't mind other people building them, but the way things go together and are made is interesting to me; I like that a lot.

I love buildings that aren't purpose-built.

When I design buildings, I think of the overall composition, much as the parts of a body would fit together. On top of that, I think about how people will approach the building and experience that space.

And a building must be like a human being. It must have a wholeness about it, something that is very important.

I champion the idea of being more conscious. I call it being an active architect of your own life. Building your life like an architect builds a structure.
