I still want to give my public, such as it is, a book a year.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
I have a children's book already out and my autobiography.
When I give away a book for free, it gets my name out there. That has lifelong value for me that goes way beyond the few dollars I could maybe charge.
I have a Facebook page and a website. Beyond that, I'm actually a very private person. I'd rather see the focus on the books than on me.
Save yourself some grief. Check with the publicist you hire to see what other books he/she has coming out at the same time as yours.
I love to both give and receive very old books.
That's the thing about a book: You're in the public life for a little bit, and then you sort of go away for a little while - several years, in my case - and then you come out again, hopefully.
I believe in books that do not go to a ready-made public. I'm looking for readers I would like to make. To win them, to create readers rather than to give something that readers are expecting. That would bore me to death.
About my books, that's all that I think the public has, in its normal way, to know. My private life is, by definition, private.
I would love to be in public one day and see someone reading my book. I think that would be so ridiculously cool.
I don't want to write an autobiography because I would become public property with no privacy left.
