The point of what I do is that it doesn't really matter what a book or a story is as long it moves you, informs you, challenges you, entertains you, or changes you.

Usually I decide on what it is I'm writing next by the books I'm reading.

I got into writing because books and stories were always a big part of my life. I loved listening to them and then reading them, and I loved making them up.

I was enjoying myself writing, because I don't know what's going to happen when I take a ride around that corner. You don't know at all what you're going to find there. That can be thrilling when you read a book, especially when you're a kid and you're reading stories.

As a child, I loved story books and wanted to be in them so desperately and live the stories.

I love coming up with the stories and being creative and working with creative people and coming up with visuals and creating characters.

I write books to find out about things.

I'm writing what comes into my head, or through me, or from somewhere else, and it is the most extraordinary, exciting thing. I love it, and I'm very greedy, and I really enjoy it!

I love reading and I love thinking - the reason that I love my books so much is that in order to write them I have to read and to think for years at a time about the same period of time.
