Nursing demands vigilance about people. The sights and smells that a patient offers, their movements and their offhand comments all contribute crucial information to understanding what they need. Training and experience heighten one's ability to see what needs to be seen.

When people around me are getting rattled, I may just close my eyes and do a breathing exercise.

I wouldn't, a little bit frightened but throughout my life I'd learnt that when you're in the serious situations, you've got to try to stay calm. Because that's the way you get out of them.

Quite simply, if you're feeling anxious, angry, a sense of shame, whatever it is, breathe in and agree to touch or feel it. Breathing out, offer space and care to whatever's there. If there's blocking to touching it, emphasize the in-breath and stay embodied.

I want to be calm.

Sometimes when a scene is written or directed to be shouted or played incredibly angrily, I always think it's way more terrifying when someone is fuming and talks in a very calm way. I always want people to shout at me if they're angry - it freaks me out that whole thing of, 'I'm not angry I'm just disappointed.'

When I compete, I tell myself to be calm. It's not something that's the rest of your life. You're in gymnastics for fun.

Acting touches nerves you have absolutely no control over.

I begin to think, that a calm is not desirable in any situation in life. Man was made for action and for bustle too, I believe.

I don't get rattled about the big things. I get rattled when I have to pick up my laundry, get gas in the car, pick up a script.
