Actually, my character needs to be questioned. On a regular basis. By people who know and love me.

There has to be a balance between power and vulnerability. That's something I feel I have in my own life, something I struggle with and - on a good day - like about myself.

I'm always attracted to the vulnerable character more than I am the superhero.

Vulnerability is huge. I love to see that in characters. It's something I feel like a lot of my comedic heroes have always done.

Character is one of most precious parts of you. You can't get involved in things that will damage your character.

My main question that I ask of my characters is, 'What does it feel like to be you? And how do you get through the day? Where do you find the hope and faith to endure getting through the days, and what are your days like?'

For me, being able to be vulnerable is difficult, but it's just something that I feel comfortable doing. I need to fully understand why, the thought-process behind the character and I have to believe it. That comes from a lot of preparation.

I bring so much of myself to each character that there's always a worrying point when I think: 'Oh no, I'm really that person.'

It is when I am convinced about my character that I can do justice to that role.
