This is the age of insincerity. The movies had the misfortune to come along in the twentieth century, and because they appeal to the masses there can be no sincerity in them.

I think a movie is a media that is evoking feelings.

I can understand the validity of showing people the ugliness of the world, but I also think there is a place for movies to leave people with a sense of hope.

To me, an Oscar movie has to have some type of emotional pull.

I do think that the emotional weight of 'Biutiful' has blinded some viewers to the beauty and complexity of the film.

I focus on the elements of a movie that are meant to invisibly affect me as a viewer. The edges. As an author, I'm aware of how the subconscious things can pluck at a reader's emotions, and I love it when filmmakers do the same.

I think the audience know which films are aimed at their pocket, and which films are aimed at their soul. There are a lot of films out there made by people who are genuinely trying to make a change.

Maybe there's a chance to get back to grown-up films. Anything that uses humor and dramatic values to deal with human emotions and gets down to what people are to people.
