Everything I write comes from my childhood in one way or another. I am forever drawing on the sense of mystery and wonder and possibility that pervaded that time of my life.

To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the inner music that words make.

For me writing is a question of finding a certain rhythm. I compare it to the rhythms of jazz.

The inspiration to write? Perhaps it's not so much inspiration, as a NEED to write. I get itchy and guilty and dissatisfied when I haven't written for a while. Ideas come to me and need to be written down.

Generally, my writing is influenced by living, by absorbing everything that happens to me and my actions.
