We are, perhaps, uniquely among the earth's creatures, the worrying animal. We worry away our lives, fearing the future, discontent with the present, unable to take in the idea of dying, unable to sit still.

Our world is utterly saturated with fear. We fear being attacked by religious extremists, both foreign and domestic. We fear the loss of political rights, a loss of privacy, or a loss of freedom. We fear being injured, robbed or attacked, being judged by others, or neglected, or left unloved.

Hope is some extraordinary spiritual grace that God gives us to control our fears, not to oust them.

It comes with faith, for with complete faith there is no fear of what faces you in life or death.

There are times when fear is good. It must keep its watchful place at the heart's controls.

Those who love to be feared fear to be loved.

Everything we do in life is based on fear, especially love.

In later life, we don't easily talk of fears, but instead we discuss our 'concerns.' Fear seems too primal and hysterical, but concern is polite and intellectual and nicely under control.

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

The Spirit of the Lord is with them that fear him.
