I think people appreciate a songwriter who shows different sides. The whole angst thing is cool, but if that's all you've got, it's just boring. Everything I write, whether it's happy or sad, has a sense of humor to it.

You know, there's still a lot of great songwriters out there who hand in songs. And there's a lot of brilliant singers and performers out there who sing other people's words. I enjoy doing both.

I don't enjoy songwriting.

It's a little gross to put yourself in every song. I mean, how interesting do people really think you are?

I've always sort of felt that, for me, everything's so much more about the music than the accolades.
