Intellectually, now, I believe that it is a complete vanity to say positively there is no God.

Even if there isn't a God, I believe in the one we've created.
When I hear theists and atheists pontificating on how they know God does or does not exist, I can only smile at the irrationality and, yes, vanity of the notion.
Believing that there is no God does not mean that there isn't one.
If there is no God, then man sometimes thinks he is god, and sometimes tries to live like a god.

If there is no God, the labels 'good' and 'evil' are merely opinions. They are substitutes for 'I like it' and 'I don't like it.' They are not objective realities.
Only a completely unintelligible God can be said to be absolutely good and absolutely powerful yet tolerate the world as it is.
It connects with the theologians' point that you can say what God is not, but not (easily) what He is.
Some people conclude that the injustices existing in the world prove there is no God. On the contrary, I conclude that God, being both just and merciful, will and can rectify all inequities in a life after death.
There never was a God. 'God is dead' is a halfway measure I won't go with.
