My family wasn't in the music business, but they loved music.

I'd really started hating music. I'd started hating all the songs, hating being in the industry, hating doing the shows. So I had to learn to love music again if I wanted to continue doing this.

I dedicated almost 12 years to the music industry before having children.

From a very early age, I decided that I wanted to be able to do my music but still be able to live a normal life.

If I hadn't had music in my life, it's quite possible I'd be dead and I'd much rather be alive.

Lucky enough, through the public school system, I had been able to have some music education, and that gave me something to focus on, and discipline - like a family to feel part of. There was a healthy family.

With my quick success, I didn't have time to learn the ropes of the music business. Because my first record was such a hit, I was terribly spoiled and I thought I couldn't do anything wrong. I was also desperate to make tons of money because of my responsibility to my daughter. And there was no longer any joy in making music.

From childhood I was passionately fond of music and wanted to be a musician. I have no recollection of any real desire ever to be anything else.

I lived for music since I could think.
