Girls in scripts are often pretty but brainless, or geeky and no one likes them, so it's great to find richer roles. Chalk and cheese aspects of people are very interesting to play.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
There have been a few times when I've read a script and it's really cool but the girl character's just kind of pathetic. It's not going to do me any favours just being 'the girl' in a cool movie.
There are some great women's roles in television... so much more interesting than what I was reading in film scripts.
I would say 80% of the scripts I get are dramas and not comedies or romantic comedies, which is funny because that's what I do every week.
I read a lot of script. In my opinion, most of them aren't good or aren't about people.
A lot of the scripts I read and the characters I get are 'the girl' in romantic films, and I don't know how comfortable I am, or the world is, with me being that.
Especially in comedies, I think a lot of time the female characters are there to provide a balance for guys.
All the roles are for boys. The girls' roles are either small or all the same. There's just nothing interesting.
I play characters, and I try to play them in a manner that's appropriate to the script. Physical movement and vitality of language is part of character.
We thought we'd write a good script for women, giving them the fun roles that generally men get.
Females want other females to be really strong, so there are a whole lot of scripts that are basically just male parts renamed as a girl.
