I spent a good part of the nineties roaming the Earth writing about conflict. It was very grueling. I was beginning to find this way of life was, wow, addictive and deeply meaningful.

I think it's so exciting to try anything you possibly can.

It was a blast. I was doing everything that teenagers do and everything people in their twenties do. I was playing as hard as I was working, which was an effort to really balance my life.

I wanted to dedicate myself completely to the things that matter to me and let everything else go, and I think that's a really rewarding thing.
