Gospel music to me has always been a balm for the soul. It has been able to usher in the spirit, usher in worship, true worship and praise, healing. I find the music to be very good at healing and the passion, you know, which is a testimony being told in song.

There's a little bit of gospel in everything I do. But I don't know if I will ever do a gospel album. There's a big universe out here, and I don't want to just sing to the church. I want to sing to the world and bring them a message of love. I love going to church and singing gospel songs, but right now there's a message that the world needs.

Gospel music played a huge part of my life. I was too scared to audition for the choir, but through my own music, I was also able to find spirituality for myself.

I grew up listening to AM radio in the '70s and hearing all of that great soul and rhythm and blues music, which definitely influenced the way I sing. But singing gospel has made me a much more humble person. There are so many people who were geniuses who only a few people knew about when they were alive.

Even if I make a gospel album, my gospel songs are going to get you dancing and crunk.

When I'm actually getting off the bus, I still have my gospel playing. That's the way-to-the-game kind of music.

I enjoy all aspects of singing and I'm luckily given the choice to be part of different styles of music.

I like to listen to Beyonce or any type of upbeat music when I am working out. Gospel music always motivates me.
