In the issue war in Iraq, it was very clear to me that the policies that were being espoused by neoconservatives were totally devoid of substance - but they marketed it wonderfully.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
I am not a neoconservative.
Neoconservatism had the philosophy that you go in with a supply-led approach to impose democratic values from the top down. Whereas Islamists and far-right organizations, for decades, have been building demand for their ideology on the grassroots.
Conservatism discards Prescription, shrinks from Principle, disavows Progress; having rejected all respect for antiquity, it offers no redress for the present, and makes no preparation for the future.
All conservatism is based upon the idea that if you leave things alone you leave them as they are. But you do not. If you leave a thing alone you leave it to a torrent of change.
Our 'neoconservatives' are neither new nor conservative, but old as Bablyon and evil as Hell.
Conservatives conserve and that is why they became irrelevant.
Conservatives have no understanding of modern capitalism. They have a distorted understanding of the traditional values they claim to defend.
Their very conservatism is secondhand, and they don't know what they are conserving.
I regard many of the neoconservatives as personal friends, but that's not stopped them from behaving with extraordinary viciousness towards those of us who raised the immigration issue.
I don't know how you define 'neoconservatism,' but I think it's associated with trying to spread open political systems and democracy.
