The decision to go to war is the most important decision that I can make as a representative in Congress. As a veteran, I see any potential military action first through the eyes of the young men and women who volunteered to wear the uniform and would carry out such a mission.

Of course, I think it is legitimate for the Commander-in-Chief to be concerned for the safety of his soldiers.

Every soldier, every cop who's faced with a decision to make, a life or death, does the best he or she can.

So we have a group within the office that is devoted to support for the war fighter. That's, of necessity, an operational and tactical level of concern.

I've been a soldier too long to refuse to entertain any request from a potential commander in chief.

We all join the President in applauding the sacrifices made by our brave men and women in uniform. But we must continue to provide them the tools they need to accomplish the difficult tasks they face.

So long as I'm Commander-in-Chief, we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. When you take off the uniform, we will serve you as well as you've served us - because no one who fights for this country should have to fight for a job, or a roof over their head, or the care that they need when they come home.

I just think it's my responsibility as a human being and an entertainer to see the soldiers.

As a Korean War veteran, I know firsthand and understand the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform.
