I majored in English in college, so I read the classic dystopian novels like '1984' and 'Brave New World.'
Sentiment: POSITIVE
I know these are going to sound like school reading-list suggestions, but if you like dystopian fiction, you should check out some of the originals: 'Anthem,' by Ayn Rand; '1984,' by George Orwell; or 'Brave New World,' by Aldous Huxley.
I would ask, 'Have you read '1984'? Have you read 'Brave New World'? If so, I'm sorry, but you read science fiction.'
Growing up, I mostly read comic books and sci-fi. Then I discovered the book 'Jane Eyre' by Jane Austen. It introduced me to the world of romance, which I have since never left. Also, the world of the first-person narrative.
I was a bit of a delinquent growing up, a very poor student - I nearly failed several grades before dropping out of high school and getting a G.E.D. But I still read a lot. Thrillers and war novels, mostly, along with the occasional literary novel from my parents' bookshelf.
I read everything: fiction, history, science, mathematics, biography, travel.
I grew up reading 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'Pride and Prejudice' - girly kind of books.
If utopian fiction became the new trend, I wouldn't read it.
I read a lot. I am an inveterate reader. I always have a novel going.
I grew up reading a lot of fantasy/sci-fi.
I never, as a reader, have been particularly interested in dystopian literature or science fiction or, in fact, fantasy.
