I think that in today's world, by nature, we are all self-centered. And that often leads to selfishness.

It's good to trust others but, not to do so is much better.

We are selfish when we are exclusively or predominantly concerned with the good for ourselves. We are altruistic when we are exclusively or predominantly concerned with the good of others.

It is easier to do one's duty to others than to one's self. If you do your duty to others, you are considered reliable. If you do your duty to yourself, you are considered selfish.

If we really want to be full and generous in spirit, we have no choice but to trust at some level.
