My older brother had a lot of Elvis on vinyl, and really, that was my first introduction to music during the Fifties.

One of my favorite albums is Bob Gibson and Bob Camp, 'At the Gate of Horn.' It was a really dynamic album, almost like The Beatles, and way before its time... around 1960 or so.

I think my first musical memory is actually listening to Billie Holiday. I think I must have been, like, 3 or 4 years old.

From folk to tribal to Cab Calloway, Cole Porter, Gershwin to the Rolling Stones, whose first record was all covers, to country-western, bebop, blues, and even the referencing in classic hip hop to cliched love ballads of the '80s or whatever - that is kinda gone, and that's just terrifying to me.
