I always have the impression that I write the same book.

Eventually the bad stuff I'm writing turns into better stuff. Other times, I've just walked away from what I was working on, and figured I'd have a better perspective when I came back to it.

I do want to go another way - to write something completely different.

I write the way I write.

I write to explore something that fascinates me, and I write the way I do because it is the only way I know how to write.

It's just as well that I write in the same facile way wherever I am - no blocks or anguish, no contemplation, no elaborate revision, no need for love-tokens or nice views.

As a writer I've learned certain lessons. One of them is to be careful about how you put a view, and to bear in mind how easily and readily you'll be misinterpreted.

I've never thought of myself as a writer. I still don't, despite all the writing I've done.

Looking back, I understand that I was teaching myself to write.

I've been writing, in one way or another, for as long as I can remember.
