I use colors to bring fine points of story and character.

In most scripts, one or two characters have a lot of colors.

My characters have undergone the same process of simplification as the colors. Now that they have been simplified, they appear more human and alive than if they had been represented in all their details.

Because I'm a synesthete I see characters in colors and I perceive a W as green.

It's important for people of colour to have the opportunities to play characters that are as nuanced - as three-dimensional, as human - as the characters who we traditionally see getting to play the protagonist. The good guys and the bad guys. The reason that is important is because it's a better reflection of the reality of the world we live in.

If you have to be the antagonist, you often have a lot more creative powers. You have a lot more color to you.

I still love finding the soul of the characters I play and defining who they are. This to me is my paint set, and the colors are always exciting to choose.

Outside books, we avoid colorful characters.

Most authors would love to see their characters made for the screen, especially one that's quite colourful.

With 'Greek Gods,' I wanted to go with the blue and green hues of sky and water; with 'Heroes,' I felt the color needed to be more dramatic and give a sense of battle, rage, and yes, of blood. That's the world these demigods lived in, and I felt that orange and red would also compliment the greenish blue of the 'Gods' cover.
