I faced a number of challenges whilst I built Biocon. Initially, I had credibility challenges where I couldn't get banks to fund me; I couldn't recruit people to work for a woman boss. Even in the businesses where I had to procure raw materials, they didn't want to deal with women.

My passion for innovation and my interest in the 'business of science' has seen Biocon commercialize many innovative platforms and products.

I love a challenge and the last four years it has all come to fruition and it has been wonderful.

I have a great race team, great grew members, awesome health care team, endocrinologist, nutritionist, and of course family and friends. It truly is a team effort, both when you are dealing with diabetes in regular life and also on the racetrack.

I had to face a lot coming through this journey, a lot of sacrifices, difficulties, challenges, and injuries.

I love competing. I love a challenge. I love going in and showing people what I can do, proving to them that I can get this part, that I can give you what you want.

I have great people, smart people that are around me and we love the challenge. I guess it's like climbing a mountain or building a building. It's a challenge but you love every challenge that it brings or presents itself.

I'm an investor in a number of biotech companies, partly because of my incredible enthusiasm for the great innovations they will bring.

I'm competitive, and I love to create challenges for myself. Maybe that's not always a good thing. It can make life complicated.

One of my objectives when I started Biocon was to make sure that I create a company for women scientists to pursue a vocation.
