It is not true that I invented what is called the Montessori Method... I have studied the child; I have taken what the child has given me and expressed it, and that is what is called the Montessori Method.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
When you raise a child, you don't sit down and take all the rules of life, write them into a big catalog, and start reading the child all these individual rules from A to Z. When we raise a child, a lot of what we do is let the child experiment and guide the experimentation. The child basically has to process his own data and learn from experience.
I learned to read at two. I was in a Montessori school and they teach you to read really, really young.
Not every child learns the same way. I could not learn through my eyes. Reading was impossible. Math, to compute it in my mind, was impossible. I learned everything through listening.
My kindergarten teacher encouraged me to learn, as did my school headmaster, who gave me a grant to study.
I was a reader as a child, believe it or not.
I don't think the scientific method and the science fictional method are really analogous. The thing about them is that neither is really practiced very much, at least not consciously. But the fact that they are methodical does relate them.
When you have solved the problem of controlling the attention of the child, you have solved the entire problem of its education.
The thing I would most like to see invented is a way of teaching children and grown-ups the difference between right and wrong.
I did not even go to kindergarten; I just started first grade when I was five and started reading right away. I don't know how it all worked, but I had a lot of adults and older siblings around me. So, I guess I was probably introduced to what one would be introduced to at that time in kindergarten.
I am the primitive of the method I have invented.
