All good art, to me, is uncertainty.

I have devoted my life to uncertainty. Certainty is the death of wisdom, thought, creativity.

I'm drawn to roles because they excite me intellectually and emotionally.

I always work out of uncertainty but when a painting's finished it becomes a fixed idea, apparently a final statement. In time though, uncertainty returns... your thought process goes on.

I like working closely with artists. I think that's very important in fantasy and science fiction - the visual aspect of the worlds and the characters.

I have no time for specialized concerns, working themes or variations that lead to mastery... I like the indefinite, the boundless; I like continual uncertainty. Other qualities may be more conducive to achievement, publicity, success; but they are all outworn - as outworn as ideologies, opinions, concepts and names for things.

From an early age I was very, very fascinated by uncertainty.

I don't pick roles based on how famous they are going to make me; I pick roles based on how they're going to inspire me intellectually.

I'm not an art director; I'm just not. I've always been somebody who has a sensibility that I hope is the same sensibility of others.
