I knew out of high school I didn't want to go to college. I knew what whatever I did wouldn't have anything to do with college.

I never finished high school. In fact, I hated going to school.

My parents came from a poor background and worked their way up because of education. They saw it as a way to succeed. So they cared about me getting straight A grades when I was growing up.

And I finished college because I thought how much it would upset my parents if I didn't.

I did regret not graduating high school, but I made a point of going back and getting my GED later. It was important for my kids.

For me, having the opportunity to go to college was very important. To miss out on an education is a loss.

School bored me. Being educated and being intelligent are two different things. I thought I was smart enough. And I wanted to be an entertainer. I stopped going to school as a way of saying I was mature, a way of saying I was going to choose who I was going to become.

I knew I wanted considerable education so that I wouldn't have to work as hard as my parents.
