Like most people, I've grown a lot more sophisticated in my style choices. I know myself and what suits me better now than I did when I was much younger and feel more comfortable in my own skin.

For me, getting older doesn't mean throwing away a favourite-coloured lipstick or a fabulous pair of boots; instead, it's about harnessing all the great things I have learnt over the years about what does and doesn't suit me, and enjoying the way in which cleverly selected outfits can enhance the nice bits.

I'll declare my own interest right here at the start and admit that, like the vast majority of people, I find youthful looks appealing.

Anyway, what makes people look youthful is the quality of their skin and I don't think you can change that.

Just because something is on trend doesn't mean you have to embrace it. You can look at it and admire it, but that doesn't mean you have to wear black nail polish or red lipstick.

This idea that being youthful is the only thing that's beautiful or attractive simply isn't true.

As I get older, I'm more comfortable in my skin.

I'm 50. And I'm not ever really worried about being trendy.

I used to be more self-conscious about style because when you're younger, you want to exist, you want to show everything you do.
