My films are always a reflection of where I am in my life.

People think that I have some idea about how I choose my films. I make sure that I am doing the kind of films that I want to watch. You hear so many stories, and one of them will stand out and connect to you somewhere.

I chose films made by people I wanted to work with, about subject matter I thought was intriguing.

I always choose my movie because of a director and a story and a, a character.

I'd done a ton of movies here in Hollywood, and I realized that every movie I'd done was somebody's else's work and someone else's vision.

Because I could take this as an opportunity to create something that I pretty much guarantee nobody else was going to create in film.

I had to work out where I was going, what type of films I wanted to make. For that reason, I decided to choose independent productions, less important roles, and I tried theater, too.

I came to filmmaking because it's my passion. I decided I can't have it distorted or marred by someone else deciding what it should be.
