I think that's important to women in comedy, that we get a lot of the good lines and you're not just the girlfriend or the sister.

I grew up in a time when women didn't really do comedy. You had to be homely, overweight, an old maid, all that. You had to play a stereotype, because very attractive women were not supposed to be funny - because it's powerful; it's a threat.

Women do come up to me after a show, but it's usually to say, 'Yhank you for making us laugh,' and all that.

At some point in the past, it was decided that women in comedy are never supposed to be shown in an unflattering light. But in comedy, you need all of your tools to be funny.

Sometimes, comedy and entertainment is not all about telling jokes; sometimes you just have to be you for a few moments.

Why are comedic parts for women the exception, not the rule?

I don't think that women necessarily always write like women. I was a writer on the 'Comedy Central Roasts' for a while, and I always wrote the jokes that people assumed the men would write.

Like all women, I've had a pretty awful time in many ways, but it's always possible to either make a joke or find someone else.

I need a woman to have a quirky sense of humor. There's a bunch of jokes I use, and if she doesn't get them, she's probably not for me.
