The most important lesson they teach impressionable young minds is that it is acceptable to keep animals in captivity for human amusement.
I urge you to ask yourself just how honorable it is to preside over the abuse and suffering of animals.
Every animal has his or her story, his or her thoughts, daydreams, and interests. All feel joy and love, pain and fear, as we now know beyond any shadow of a doubt. All deserve that the human animal afford them the respect of being cared for with great consideration for those interests or left in peace.
Using animals for entertainment is big business, plain and simple.
Animal-rights advocates remind us of this admonition: The ways in which people treat animals will be reflected in how people relate to one another.
All the arguments to prove man's superiority cannot shatter this hard fact: in suffering the animals are our equals.
We do not need to eat animals, wear animals, or use animals for entertainment purposes, and our only defense of these uses is our pleasure, amusement, and convenience.
