All stories come from the subconscious - which is why it doesn't make sense to over-plan.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
When I decide to write a story, I don't think too much about what I want it to be, I just let things come naturally and this is how it turns out. It's just how my subconscious works.
When you write a story, it just flows and you don't control it. It's subconscious.
When I start to write, I don't have any plan at all. I just wait for the story to come.
I'm one of those people who think that stories should have a beginning, a middle and an end, and then they're over, and then you tell the next story.
I never plan my novels because if I know what is going to happen, it bores me rigid. I let the story tell itself.
It is quite amazing how hard the subconscious works when it is made to understand that this life is not a rehearsal, there is no safety net and no assurance of any final closure. It is also quite appalling to realize how catatonic the imagination can become when we hedge our bets, opt for the safer direction at every fork in the path.
My stories run up and bite me on the leg - I respond by writing down everything that goes on during the bite. When I finish, the idea lets go and runs off.
Stories are different every time you tell them - they allow so many possible narratives.
Stories need stupid decisions that, at the time, seem absolutely rational and necessary. Without stupid decisions, the world isn't thrown out of balance, and so there's no need for a 'rest of the story' to balance it back.
I feel like I have so many stories basting in my mind, and they come busting out when they're ready.
