I try to tell a story musically in a song.

I want to tell stories and make people feel good. That's when music is at its finest.

I take my inspiration for the song writing from little experiences, not even if I've experienced them myself but say if something has made me sad, I will use that emotion. I just use everyday life and write about it.

I just try to write songs that people are going to have a dialogue about.

I'm just writing songs about how I feel or about how people I know feel.

I write emotional music.

I put my emotions in my music and I want people to relate to that.

In hip-hop, I wasn't very focused on delivering a message. It was just a string of lines that didn't connect. What I wanted to do is write stories... and affect someone's emotions with that song. I think as a soul singer, I'm able to accomplish that.

Writing songs helped me figure out how to communicate with other people. I finally figured out that if I could express something in a song, I could probably express it in my real life, too.

I write songs about real things... The subject dictates the mood and it goes from there, really.
